Imperia {FOOD}

I am always down to try out new restaurants and am always on the look out for exciting + fun new places. I have decided to try and take more advantage of living in Austin and get out there and really experience it since there are so many places to try! (I get lazy sometimes..) I usually drag my friend Courtney with me whenever I go and it is always a good time! I want to track our restaurant hopping (as best I can) and figure the best place would be right here. We have been to many other places prior to today’s subject and I hope to file those trips later on. But for now, may I present IMPERIA.

A few nights ago we ventured downtown for some sushi. As we crossed the street from our $7 parking spot to the restaurant, we could not help but wish we lived in the modern/industrial apartments the next block over. Awesome bars, restaurants + unique retail shops flanked each side of the street and it was almost as if I had just pushed the ‘refresh’ button on my entire day. (It had clearly been TOO long since I had been downtown!)

We were semi-greeted by a semi-snobby hostess who told us it would be a 45 minute wait because we did NOT have reservations. (It was a bit like the scene in ‘Date Night’ where Steve Carell and Tina Fey try to get a table at Claw. HA!) So, we stood off to the side in the non-existent waiting area. As we were finally being seated, our waitress informs us there is a “super long wait” for the sushi bar because they were so busy. While our appetizer came in a flash, our drinks took their time finding their way to our table. We each ordered a roll which took about 30-45 minutes for them to get out to us. We had good convo and drinks, so no biggie. It was worth the wait though as it was very scrumptious! We wanted to try one more roll which took a little longer but it was SO good! At this point it had been 3 hours and we were both ready to get outta there.

The atmosphere was nice and I enjoyed the interior detailing. The lighting was a little dark but I like dark. There was louder music over in the bar area but I could carry on a normal conversation in our dining area. It reminded us both of some of the sushi places we went to in New York. We liked it!All in all it was a good meal and I will probably be back.. with a reservation though!

For Want of a Boot

I have been bookmarking boots for the past 2 months like a crazy person. I just can’t get enough and have acquired quite the wish list for Fall footwear. If only I had the luxury of spending mucho dinero so that I could obtain my wish list! My FULL list contains more than 30 pairs (ridiculous!) but for this post I narrowed it down to a manageable 21 pairs. Every pair has its own personality and reason for being on the list. Donations are welcome :)

Oldie but a Goodie

Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwater, which celebrates its 75th anniversary this year, is easily one of the most recognizable structures. These images are new photos by Christopher Little in the new book Fallingwater. These pictures are refreshing and make me want to plan my trip to finally get my butt up there to see it in person. But for now, I shall just admire through these photos.

Boat House Revisited

I have this dream of one day owning the perfect land. This includes a semi- close proximity to a major city while still being somewhat secluded, a body of water of some sort (lake/pond/river), lots of trees, a few rolling hills and my AWESOME home that I am currently/always designing. (I would do a post about my home design but it would turn into a book!) The land would showcase my home, a guest house, a well designed outdoor area, random dining areas throughout the property (by the water/under a huge tree/on a hilltop) and a stable (because I think I might want a horse.) I am sure I will continue to add/change things to the overall master plan as time passes.

In my senior year architecture studio, I designed a personal dwelling that had a huge effect on my current design aesthetic and made me obsessed with infusing interior and exterior spaces. There is a technical separation between the two but visually the spaces spill over into one another. (Again, I could write a book on this topic as well.) While checking out my design sites yesterday, I came across this little beauty over at Architizer. I knew immediately this structure would go hand-in-hand with my domain.

This structure is located in Norway and took the place of an existing traditional boat house which gave influence to the new design. It is simple. It is functional. It works! They reused a lot of the materials and I am a huge fan of repurposing. Norwegian Pine was used for the exterior where they also added some sort of by-product from the sugar cane industry into the pine that will give grey patina. (I am loving this and will need to do more research on it!) The doors are industrial yet simplistic and allow for the space to breathe. This structure really develops from its surroundings and uses it as a base. The fact that they used the rock formations for structural support is AMAZING!

So YES, I do see this design as inspiration for my future homestead plans as a possible random dining area. I can picture my family and friends all gather there on a cool autumn evening. Maybe a few are dancing to Sinatra on the outer deck while some friends are gathered around the fire catching up and reminiscing. My sister would be crackin’ jokes while my Mom would be hunting for badass rocks and my Dad is telling one of his stories over drinks and apps(appetizers). Oh my gosh, I want to own this NOW!
